Blue Moon is baaaaaack!
Once in a Blue Moon International Gift Gallery appeared on Wabash Avenue 1995-1998. It popped up as an internet store in 1999 based out of Macomb, Illinois, but as it was not enough fun to just throw things in a box, pop on a label and mail.... in 2000, it morphed into Once in a Blue Moon Outlet on the Square in Macomb. In 2003 and back in Springfield, Illinois, Once in a Blue Moon popped up as a 2003 Holiday Store on MacArthur Blvd.
As of April 9, 2018, happily and gratefully, Once in a Blue Moon nestled into its lively 1535 Wabash Avenue location in Springfield, Illinois. Says owner Janet Barkmeier, “It is especially wonderful when previous customers walk in the door! Come see us...again!”
The above history of this shop wouldn’t be complete if its very earliest roots weren’t revealed. In 1977-1988, The Yellow Unicorn Gift & Pipe Emporium was established in downtown Lincoln, Illinois, on the Square. In 1982-1985, Barkmeier opened Wildflowers Ltd., a ladies’ apparel shop, next door. Both were sold and continued operating for a time. Says Barkmeier, “It is always a special treat to have these earliest customers visit us again!”
